Slow progression

I’ve been really bad at updating the blog lately.. I’ve actually been really bad at updating since the beginning of this blog! I should try to get a little better at this..

Lately I’ve been working on a newsreader for the norwegian market. An app where you can choose several RSS-feeds from norwegian newspapers/publications to follow.. The app’s been out in the marketplace for a week now! You can find it here: http://www.windowsphone.com/nb-NO/apps/fe825f1d-52c6-44ac-987a-d420d9c7d359  if you’re norwegian… ;)

Now I’m back to working on finishing Sheikh! (It’s been a while) I’ve got 9 levels done now.. and think I’ll stop at 10 levels. After that I’ll start polishing gameplay, add sounds, highscore lists, and saving of some sort.. I’m considering finding some betatesters, just to get some feedback before I release.. but mainly Sheikh is nothing but a form of training for me.. A first try at making a real game, so we’ll see! But give me a heads up if you’re interested in testing!

official blog app!

Decided to try out the WordPress starter kit from Microsoft yesterday. Played around with it and made myself an App for this blog.
I’ve submitted it to Microsoft for certification. So it should show up in the marketplace for anyone interested (don’t think there are any :P ).
It’s free and adfree of course! Read more about it and check out the screenshots on the separate page accessed from the menu above!

C ya!

Just submitted first app/game!

I’ve met a wall of no-time-for-finishing-anything lately. So I dicided to kick my own ass an release something, anything to the Markeplace just to get something done! So I made a simple slide puzzle game in two days and have now submitted it to the Marketplace for certification! :) It’s adsupported implements photo chooser and is made in XNA.. Super-duper-simple! But fun trying out the submission process! Now I’m just waiting for it to fail certification! Time will show!

It’s called “Cam! Bam! Puzzle”.. check out the screenshots on the game page in the menu! :D

Short update

So I’ve continued work on Sheikh, implemented some more stuff like enemy max walking distance option.. (Turns around when reached). And been working on more levels!

I’ve also started thinking of what I want to do next! And I already have a name for it “Grumpy Little Vikings” And today I drew up a charachter! Check him out!

Kind of cool isn’t he? I’m thinking the next game will have the option to choose from some different main characters! Got some fun ideas spinning in my head! But will finish Sheikh before I start programming something new!

That’s it for now! C ya

Other stuff?

Haven’t done anything Sheikh related today.. but I did this drawing of Owlboy, from the game with the same name. Awesome game by the way! You should check it out! Download the demo here: http://www.roflgames.com/DPadWebsite/www/OwlboyWebsite/index.htm

I believe the game is done in XNA, and the artwork for the game is incredible! I just envy the skills of that graphics designer! He does pixelart like no other! Insane!

There’s norwegian guys (like me) behind this game. Hopefully they succeed with this game, so they continue their work! :) And I hope they bring the game to the Windows Phone if possible! (I think it is..)

Anyways here’s the artwork I did:

See you later!

New blog!

As you might see I’ve set up a new blog! With lots more options! :-D It’s running on a wordpress open source backbone.. Spent the day trying to figure it out! And must say I like it very much so far! Other stuff I’ve been doing today is refining and adding to my tilesets for Sheikh, and working on Level 2 of the game! It’s alot of work and takes time.. but it’s fun to make things work aswell! And hopefully the game ends up being fun to play aswell!

Latest video:

Newest addition to my tilesets is this one for building castles etc. :

You see an example of how it’s used in the video above! :)

That’s it for now..

See ya

Moving enemies!!

Since last time, I’ve implemented a way to handle moving enemies!! The game is starting to shine, and it’s actually fun to play! Not much left to add I think, except more types of enemies.. but that’s just drawing and designing fun.. In addition to building the 15 levels that’s not done yet!

Here’s the latest video: (already done some changes after this stage)

Starting to grow

Have continued programming quite a bit lately! I’ve been working on adding enemies and pickups.. bumped into some problems underway.. but nothing I couldn’t handle so far.. no enemies yet, only obstacles (spikes shoting up from the ground).. Still thinking about how I’m going to handle moving enemies, but I’ve got a plan for that as well building up in my head..

I’ve handled adding pickups and enemies to seperate layers of the map, both of the layers are invisible, I only test the tiles in the viewport to see if a pickup/enemy needs to be added in this location.. Only testing the tiles in the viewport of course, to lower the load.. and when a pickup is picked up it’s added to a List of locations that should not be added again if the player returns to a prior location.. Quite a bit to handle for a newbie like me, but I’m getting along fine.. No big headaces so far! Just alot of fun!

I’ve also added score indicator and player lives.. Restarting a level is done easy by clearing “added enemies” and “pickup lists”.. works as a charm..

Haven’t implemented any highscore saving and other forms of saving just yet.. but I’ve learnt from my last game that I need to wait till I know exactly what my games going to contain before I start implementing that kind of thing.. so that will be finished last..

Here’s a video of what the game looks like at the moment:
